Well, if you read the previous post you're probably wondering why so many links didn't work, there's a simple enough reason for that. RandomSelect and SmeeNet have, sadly, ended any association with one another. I'd tell you it was amicably but it wasn't, and appears to be a result of a thinly veiled potshot I'd taken at a certain fellow two posts down. And while I don't understand all the details, it does not appear to be said insult-ee that was responsible. Instead it seems to stem from someone he has no directly correlation to, but regardless it's still a direct reaction to the shot I fired. Go me. That said, that was to be my last shot at him, a way to shout that "I'm still here", and while it felt good at the time...I need to let it go. The website needs that. RandomSelect has always been intended to be a place to discuss game development and innovate, and to not feel you need to be put on a leash for speaking your mind within reason. Seeing people openly discuss if a work should be criticized for taking a shot at someone else's work when the player itself would never know that? Yeah, that's a good reason why this place still needs to exist.

So I won't bore you with more details. Our hosted pages should still be up, and will get some cosmetic fixes soon. The forum itself is still open too, and we could use some input on whether or not we should bring back a mugen database. Another matter is making sure hosted mugen content works properly in Mugen 1.1 so it can be shown as such or otherwise patched. So busy times should be ahead of us all. Till next time.

Well now that I have your attention, here's today's updates.

-Smeenet's hosting for RandomSelect is back up, meaning that almost all the hosted links should be working now and you should be able to access much more content. Please give me a shout on the forums if you encounter any more dead links, save for the obvious tools page.
-Ohayou Sensei by Taruse is now hosted. Go get him on the hosted characters page!

So, it's been some time since an update, hasn't it? Unless you stumbled upon this page for the first time today, chances are you've used RandomSelect for your downloading needs. Casual visitors usually do, and everyone else: why are you reading this? Kidding, kidding.

My point of this post however is a simple one, in that while I'm going to use the site as a means to discuss the projects I'm currently working on, it's meant too as a safehaven for people to innovate and learn from one another without eating a heavy dose of BS (or getting banned for even thinking of saying 'BS', like on certain other sites. You may find some of the resources as they're restored very useful here yourself, don't sell them short.

During the next few weeks, RandomSelect will be getting all of its cobwebs shaken out of it. Initially this will be a slow process, but if you've been wanting to download something but experiencing dead links, this should be welcome news to you. Certainly too we're going to be continuing offering hosting for new and old creators alike that need a home for their work, so if you're in need of such hosting just drop me an email. Kindly attach your items to the email directly, or through a service like Mega or mediafire, and we'll get back to you when we can.

Incidentally if you're curious, I'm not coming back to mugen. Certainly not until I finish my current project, Splatterhouse: Remastered, a mod of a game for consoles that restores a great deal of content to it (more on that later). Everyone moves on sometimes, and I've given up the ghost on trying to recreate a memory of a game I enjoyed. Darkstalkers was great, but it's time to move on and abandon our angels of Woe.

Without further ado, here's what's been done with the site in the last hour:
-Restored broken CSS script to prevent bugs in certain browsers
-Hosted Screenpacks page will now be fully functional.
-Hosted games as well, though Falchion22's work will take a bit longer to get back up
-Started restoring the tools page, though this too will take some gathering to get to 100%.

This is CNN.

-Hosted screenpacks page is back up. Seriously nobody bothered to mention it was missing?

June 12, 2012

-Fixed many errors on the Hosted Characters page. Primarily just text duplication, errors in game classification and so forth.
-Used said page to spin out bare-bones character pages for the Marvel vs. series, Street Fighter Alpha series, Warzard, King of Fighters, and King of Fighters (Edited).
-Fixed error on the 3 Count Bout page (Bomberder icon no longer points to 'anakaris')
-Vampire Savior characters: 1 character added.
-Nixed some of the Terms of Use-esque pages, since there's no reason to punish visitors to the site by wading through more links. We'd like it to still apply, just in a less invasive manner.
-Mouser's works have been removed from the hosted characters page and we won't be carrying them for the time being. This isn't because an issue occured, but a decision on our part. Mouser's returned, and while the original hosting agreement was done with permission from people representing him, he hasn't responded to any messages to verify he's OK with it, and we'd rather not poke sleeping dogs as it were. To keep up with Mouser's latest projects, check his webspace hosted here.

May 23, 2012

-Art of Fighting 3 character page added, 16 characters listed.
-Capcom Fighting Evolution stage page added, 35 stages listed.

May 20, 2012

Sorry for the absence, Diablo 3 is just too fun and work keeps me busy otherwise. Here's your quick updates:
-Still waiting on a few responses, but you should see some new material pop back up on RS very soon here for some good news.
Corntortillias/KoYoTae's work is back up on the hosted page, however Guillotine Gen is retired. The creator of the latter has his own website, and I recommend you visit it and try his work out: http://amanojaku.us/
-Fixed a few errors in the Tools page, uploaded MosWorkshop so it can work with Windows 7, and added a link to Cybaster's Automatic Stage Creation Tool.

That's all for now, more hopefully down the line this evening so keep your eyes peeled and all that good jazz.

May 13, 2012

-Asura Blade/Buster page added, 12 stages added
-Float Castle (Ground) by SophieX now hosted...major mess up on my part, didn't realize all these years that she'd made it and we never hosted it. See how database work comes in handy?

May 12, 2012 - We live. Again.

-Vampire Savior character page added, 65 characters listed.
-3 Count Bout character page added, 11 characters listed.
Mugen downloads restored.
Tools page restored.
Fixed all instances of old "i-xcell.com"/"piiym-net.com" references on the hosted pages, should all point to piiym.net now.

...What?
