The Chronicles of M.U.G.E.N.
« on: April 03, 2008, 02:17:29 AM »
Somehow a conversation in #piiym-net ended up with me telling stories about the old days of MUGEN, so it got me thinking about this idea. Of course, I'll be needing help from other "old-timers" like [E], JJWE, etc.

Some of the topics I want to discuss are (some might be combined):
  • The Bravenet Era
  • The TESTP Forum Era
  • The Great Community Split (The closing of the TESTP forums)
  • The 0101 to 0627 Transition
  • The Silent Storm Era
  • The Matt Hannon conspiracy
  • MUGENDev (EZBoard Era)
  • MUGENDev (Shinmugen Era)
  • The MRev Era
  • The Rise of Guild (Nunor Era)
  • MUGENGuild (Valodim Era)
  • Any other things you can think of.

Anyone interested or would I just be wasting my time?

interested; I will start by gathering up any posts from previous times. Note that I lost touch with the mugen comunity in a certain point of story, most likely the rise of guild.

I didn't come around 'till the MugenDev EZboard era, but it was still interesting then.

Random stuff I remember:
-The Disciple X releasing shitty characters, and people calling it awesome.
-Splode exploding on some idiots.
-Deuce handing over the keys to MugenDev and the chaos that ensued.

Old!
I'm suprised this still exists.

I wouldn't mind hearing about "The Great Community Split".

I am wondering how will you proceed on this; I suggest to make a sub forum with one post for each scenario of the mugen story, no matter if they overlap or not, that is for information gathering. For showing what has already been concluded, do you plan on a wiki ? maybe the wiki format can be used since the start, since wikis have discussion sections.

Color me interested.  I didn't really get into MUGEN until the latter half of Dev's ShinMUGEN stay, and I'd love to hear about the early days (TESTP in particular) and the whole Matt Hannon bit.  Also, the sadist in me wants to hear more about GohanSSM2, just in case some of the more newer MUGEN folks weren't around for some of his delusional ramblings.  >:)

Hot dang! Hot dang! Writing down stuff about the drama drama history of mugen "scene" is going to be the cultural achievement of the millenium. From a new kitten's perspective I say this: while lurking, I have felt fascinated even at the mere mentions of Great Events in the past. I can't wait to read more! It'll be fun. It'll be important - insert aphorism about the importance of knowing history here.

Also, the sadist in me wants to hear more about GohanSSM2, just in case some of the more newer MUGEN folks weren't around for some of his delusional ramblings.  >:)

Btw, that reminds me about this page:

Finally, what a great opportunity it is now to create competitive retrospective fiction discussion between people. I mean, surely this will be announced on all possible mugen forums, and everyone's invited to contribute?

This made me lol.
I remember when I used  to do that.  At first I targeted everything, then I focused only on large archives, finally I gave up.

Things I just thought of

- DDM
- Nunor's brief reappearance
- Mugen on Youtube

This topic makes me feel young in this community now that I reflect back to when I first discovered Mugen in 2005. <_<

I could probably explain some of the lulzy warehouse confrontations Mugen Infantry had. Those were some dramatic days(in a funny way)

I could also cover the Blaque leak incident, but that might not be a good idea(if it bothers XCB)

I might be able to dig up some other memories, but they may not be very important(or have any major impact on the community), or have already been covered.

I'm pretty new to the community (under 6 months), so it'd be interesting to hear this stuff :D

You could add in some bits on some of the more infamous characters that have turned out to be stolen in parts, such as Gulthor's characters (Sephiroth, The Nightmare SSJ7, Himan Zellod)
Some of the more bizzarre and unique creations could have a place too, Most_Mysterious would be a prime candidate for this XD
Ideas for characters: Altair, Sybol, Xiao Xiao, K' Style, Assassin
Roster Size: 574 characters
LITTLE KNOWN FACT OF THE MOMENT: Sleep is for the weak. *twitch*
PREVIOUS FACT: rawrawrawrawr I'm a fox. What? You expected interesting facts? It's mid-term week, forget it

Interesting, I had the same idea not too long ago.

We can't forget VK. He's part of the reason we have so many Capcom and SNK creations today.

Oh, and add Mugen Guild: Titiln Era, because that's the only admin who does anything, and all he does is abuse his power.

I'm serious, too.

Oh yeah, Vans posed as a girl and busted all your asses for warehousing Waru's creations. That was fucking epic.

Proceed with this please.

I also thought jango did something similar a while back, or was this during the sametime frame?  ???

That was about a year later, actually. Jango posed as a girl to prove a point, really.

And dammit, he did a good job of proving that point, which was that you DO get better treatment online if you appear to be female.

lol agentsix and claude hit on him

Also wouldn't the time between the Valodim and Titiln Era mark another great split? Many more personal sites sprung up during that time period, many tired of Silly Guild Issues.

I got into the community shortly before the downfall of MugenDev. I remember that time was how Guild still had their database and how it looked like. I also remembered how I've been bugging NMario trying to host his site and had problems with it. :(

I also remember when I was still part of the MI crew when our sites were first hosted by Gamecop on 1Emulation. Then Gamecop gave us an idea to merge all of our sites into one and we dubbed it 1Mugen. A bit later, Syn (I think) kinda went and told us we need to leave 1Emulation to start our own site, thus the birth of Mugen-Infantry. I forgot what happened next but I probably left the crew after that. Syn left and started his own site some time later.

You reminded me how Ironmugen kept posing as a girl naming himself CCISakura in Chloe's forum. I actually thought he was a girl. :(
